Estimate board feet lumber yield from raw logs or dimensional lumber tallies, and get instant projected milling time and costs for your project.
Calculated using thin-kerf bandsaw efficiency
The most accurate formula for modern bandsaw mills like our Woodland Mills HM126. It accounts for a 1/4" kerf and standard log taper, providing realistic yields for thin-kerf sawing.
A historical formula that subtracts 4 inches from diameter for slab allowance. It heavily underestimates lumber in smaller logs (<16" diameter) but is accurate on very large sawtimber.
One board foot equals a volume of 1 inch thick × 12 inches wide × 12 inches long (144 cubic inches). Standard 2x6 × 12 ft equals 12 board feet.
